XLAB is a Slovenian R&D focused SME, with a strong commercial background. XLAB Research group is recognized as one of the strongest computer science research teams outside the academic world in Slovenia. It employs 30+ people; a quarter with a PhD and the vast majority with MSc or BSc degrees. XLAB as a whole employs 59 people and closely collaborates with 45 external experts, providing the whole company with access to more than 100 experts in the fields of computer science, mathematics, and electronics as well as design and marketing. XLAB Research has been highly active in EU FP6, FP7 and now, H2020 projects. XLAB coordinates one of the H2020 projects (MIKELANGELO, ICT-07-2014) and has participated (as WP and Task leader) in several H2020 and FP7 projects focused on cyber security, high performance computation, data analytics, cloud, and IoT. XLAB works primarily in the area of distributed and cloud systems. Its main product ISL Online [ISL03] works on a cloud which consists of servers in more than 50 data centres worldwide [ISL15]. In the last years XLAB operates as a start-up lab where new ideas are tried to be commercialized. The result of a lab are the following start-ups: mintPOS (payment solutions), Sentinel Marine Solutions (vessel control module) [SEN15], Olaii (cashless payment system)  [OLA15], Datafy [DAT15], Koofr (hybrid storage solution), [KOO13]. Experiences and know-how gained in research projects are frequently used in start-ups to speed up the development and to make solutions more secure. Most notably, Koofr was actually started in the FP7 project Contrail and later won the Slovenian start-up of the year award [STA13]. XLAB is primarily a software development company with several key products: remote collaboration family of tools (ISL Online), business software kernel and libraries (main developers for europa3000), medial remote interpretation tools (TeleTransfusion), 3D medical imaging software (MedicView), GIS solutions (NASA awarded solution GAEA+ and Europan Emergency Number Association awarded software SmartLocator), and cyber security tools (Device Monitor). In the recent years, XLAB Research has contributed to various well-established open source projects like OpenStack (cloud computing software), ManageIQ (an upstream open source project of Cloud Forms - Red Hat Cloud Management Engine), Unik (tool for compiling application sources into unikernels), and SJCL (crypto library).
